Technical Documentation

SOLVING DOCUMENTATION ISSUES

Is Your Documentation Sabotaging Your SaaS Success?

Your SaaS product is brilliant, solving real problems, delivering value, and has the potential to disrupt the market. But is the documentation living up to that potential?

It’s common for SaaS companies to need help creating and maintaining effective and accurate documentation.

This time-consuming, complex task often takes a backseat to development and marketing priorities, resulting in frustrated users, increased support costs, and slower product adoption.

Sound familiar?

❓Your in-house team is overwhelmed with development and marketing responsibilities, leaving documentation neglected.

❓ Your documentation lacks a consistent tone and voice, confusing users and hindering product understanding.

❓ Your content is outdated, leaving users frustrated and unable to find the information they need.

❓High support costs drain your resources due to unclear or missing documentation.

These challenges are not unique to your business. They’re common pain points for SaaS companies of all sizes.

But the good news is, there’s a solution.

Your Users Are Desperate for Answers

Imagine a potential customer is eager to try your product. They’ve heard great things and are ready to sign up. The customer purchases your product, but then they encounter your documentation, which is outdated, confusing, or lacking.

Frustration sets in. They can’t find the necessary information and immediately regret their purchase. They might even churn before they’ve had a chance to experience the total value of your product.

Poor documentation isn’t just a nuisance; it’s a costly problem.

Inconsistencies and errors in your documentation can lead to misunderstandings, frustration, and even product failures. A lack of collaboration among your teams results in outdated, fragmented content that fails to meet user needs.

These challenges, combined with increased support costs and slower product adoption, significantly impact your bottom line.

It’s time to break free from the minimum viable documentation cycle and unlock your product’s full potential.

Ignoring the problem leads to more costly issues later.

This is your sign to stop 🛑 ignoring your documentation needs.

Information Architecture Blueprints

Studying and designing your information architecture and documentation needs is the heaviest part of a new technical writing role. We spend up to 60 days together, during which I analyze your existing documentation setup or needs and provide you with a documentation roadmap for your business, including scope, tasks, directions, templates, and more. You can take this and have existing staff implement your documentation needs over 6-18 months (depending on your schedule), all at a lower cost than hiring a full-time employee.

Strategic Information Architecture & Implementation

Creating organized and user-friendly documentation that improves user experience meant to scale with your business. This package includes everything in Package #1 and its full implementation. The scope of this project resembles mimics, but is not, a full-time role. Due to the length of the implementation process, we can negotiate hours.

Documentation Polishing – Basic

Sometimes, you need someone to come in and clean up your existing documentation. This service includes proofreading existing documentation to ensure your user manuals, API references, and knowledge-base articles are clear, consistent, and error-free. It is not always necessary to ship a separate machine to do this. Popular options for sharing documentation edits are shared drives, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, or PDF annotating. This package is best for documents written chiefly by non-technical writers, inexperienced authors, or authors whose primary language is not English.

Documentation Polishing – Upgrade (most popular)

This package includes everything in the Documentation Polishing—Basic package but also offers a light refresh, including minor edits and rewrites beyond basic proofreading. Slight structural or content tweaks for optimal clarity help align your existing documentation. This package is best for organizations struggling with outdated or inconsistent documentation.
